Patristic Greek
Preaching and Paraenesis in the Byzantine Tradition
Fall 2024
Instructor: Dr Tikhon Pino
Online (synchronous): Wednesdays 7:30 - 8:50 PM
Spiritual exhortation lies at the heart of the patristic tradition. From festal homilies to more basic forms of edification and instruction, the patristic corpus is replete with short, approachable sermons intended to help Christians live the Gospel and grow in virtue. In this online (synchronous) course, students will read and translate historical texts of this genre, paying particular attention to the neglected writings that circulated for centuries as the work of the Church Fathers but which are now considered pseupigraphic or spurious. External applicants welcome. Tuition rates apply.
Proficiency in Ancient Greek is required to enroll.
